Weekend Thrift Finds

After school on Friday we ran by Salvation Army to drop some stuff I wanted to clear out of the house.

Of course, I went in and looked around.

Jackpot.
This really fab frame and lovely platter cost me $9 total.
I like them both very much.

And today I bought these books for a condo staging I'm doing.
I chose them purely for their colours.
Is that weird?

What exciting thrifty finds do you have to share?

More About Collections

Sometimes collections just fall into our laps.
I think I've put up photos of my front entrance before.

It actually looks like this now.

Marin felt the star needed to be by her.
(When my belongings have personality it is a sign that I am in decorating withdrawal.)

Anyway, when we lifted our house and rebuilt the basement we found some fun, really old coins.  I have them displayed in our entrance.

Along with this beautiful quote which my husband and I both adore.

And this popular saying which I just think is so true.

Recently when my husband renovated our den, he found 2 more coins.  A penny from 1947, and one from 1926.  To add them to our collection, here is what I needed.

See why it is handy to pick up little empty frames when you are out thrifting?

Don't feel like your wall arrangements can't grow.  It's fun to add to them as your collections increase or as you find new sayings or items that are important to you.

I wonder what we'll find next?

Collections

Years ago my BF gave me a lovely little plant in a white milk glass pot.
I loved it very much.
And then the plant died...so my husband threw it out.  Pot and all.

And thus began my milk glass collection.

I've collected various pieces over the years and have some displayed around my house.

It's fun to search out antique and thrift stores to find a good deal.
These are the pieces I found in Texas.
The largest one in the back left was only $2!!  Steal!

The majority of my collection is in storage however, patiently awaiting a set of built in shelves which will arrive in our dining room when we complete our renovation...hopefully this summer.

Can't wait!

What do you collect?

Adaptation

Sometimes we are forced to adapt to circumstances.

March 5
April 11
April 15

Like today's further regression in the weather for example.

ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHGHGHGHGHGGHGHGHGHGHGH!

But sometimes we adapt to things that we could easily change.

Remember my jewellery board?

The addition of a few necklaces was causing it to be a bit of a nuisance.  Every time I'd take one down, 3 more would fall off and I'd have to balance them back on their hooks.

So I gave my daughter a couple of bracelets that I never wore and moved all the short necklaces over.

It took 60 seconds.

Is there some little inconvenience that you've adapted to just because you haven't bothered to make a quick change?

Texas

Me and the rest of Winnipeg have been in a wee slump.  It may have something to do with this:

March 5

April 11

The similarity of these two photos taken over a month apart has got everyone feeling a little hopeless.  And ornery.

I came home from Texas all hyped up with crazy Spring Fever to organize and decorate and after a week I just want to nap.  So for today let's just look at Texas and sigh...

Waco was a sweet little city with lots of fun things to do with the kids.

Then we spent some time on the coast.  It was lovely.

Ahhhhhhhhh.

Okay, next week I WILL return with something useful to say about organizing.
